Green went into the semi finals in fourth place last Wednesday and defeated purple (second place) for their spot in the grand final against first place orange.
The green team players went into the game feeling a little nervous taking on such a strong team.
During the first quarter, it was a very evenly matched between the two teams with both playing equally strong defence. Outstanding shooting on both sides kept the score very close with green only slightly ahead.
In the second quarter, green started to widen the gap through some remarkable offensive play and precision shooting.
Orange began to fight back in the third, playing aggressive defence, coupled with extraordinary half court passes from Amy Schafer to Alix Maddalena, giving Alix opportunity to show off her awesome shooting skills.
In the last quarter, green found a hidden store of energy and dominated control of the ball. The almost faultless shooting of Jess Anniwell and Keiran Schneider sealed the win for the green team.
Final score: 54 – 40 for green.
This was a very well played game from both teams with spectators saying how great it was to watch. Orange was a solid team throughout the twilight competition and were expected to win the grand final.
Green’s players have made some incredible improvements throughout the competition. Jess and Keiran’s transformation as shooters has been amazing while Tayla has developed into a fierce defender.
The evening ended with a ceremony celebrating both teams excellent achievements with trophies.
Keil Shrubb and Kyra Edstein were also given encouragement awards for their sporting abilities during the competition. Next competition begins August 10.
Gloucester District Netball is having a fundraiser street hamper. Any donations are appreciated. Draw will be on July 2.
