Over the last six years the RASF has awarded over 300 scholarships to students studying at university, TAFE and registered VET colleges through its Rural Scholarship Program.
RASF executive officer, Kate Ross, said the scholarships are aimed at reducing some of the financial challenges rural students face when it comes to pursuing their education and training goals.
“In 2016, a record 58 students were awarded a RASF Rural Scholarship. There is no age limit and students could be studying anything from primary teaching, engineering, health, agriculture, or a trade.
“We are looking for a dynamic and diverse group of people who want to make a contribution to the future of rural and regional NSW,” Ms Ross said.
Gilgandra’s Zeb Coxsedge was selected from a pool of over 500 applicants in 2016, and is currently in his final year of a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Wollongong.
“I’ve been lucky enough to receive the RASF’s support throughout my studies.
“If it wasn’t for this scholarship, I simply wouldn’t be able to afford to do my degree, so the opportunity has been a real gift for me and my family.
“I’ve also made some great connections in the agricultural sector through the RASF which will really help me professionally,” Mr Coxsedge said.
The RASF Rural Scholarships offer $5,000 for full-time study and $2,500 for part-time study to assist students who are passionate about living and working in rural and regional areas, and are motivated to help build strong and vibrant communities.
Interested applicants are encouraged to visit www.rasnsw.com.au/scholarships to find out more about the RAS Foundation Rural Scholarships and to complete the online application form.
Applications close September 30 and the scholarship recipients will be announced in February 2017.
