Those magnificent men in their flying machines are due back in Gloucester for their annual ridge soaring camp, this year bringing their open cockpit glider which will be available for passenger flights.

Members of the public will be able to experience the thrill of open cockpit flying – the chance to feel the rush of the slipstream and soar over the Bucketts and Mograni.
For those seeking a more conventional flight there will be the usual closed canopy gliders. The ridge soaring camp will be held Saturday, July 30 to Sunday, August 7 based at Gloucester Aero Club.
The event is oganised by the Central Coast Soaring Club from Mangrove Mountain with pilots attending from the Hunter Valley Soaring Club, Williamtown and Southern Cross Gliding Club, Camden.
This is one of the highlights in the NSW soaring calendar. It’s traditionally held in winter to ‘capture’ the westerlies which blow from the Barrington and Gloucester Tops across to the Mograni, creating a wave-like wind which gives lift to the gliders.
On a good day the gliders can soar for hours up and down the Mograni, fly across the Avon Valley and out towards the Gloucester Tops. Heights above 10,000 feet have been attained.
Visitors were welcome to meet the pilots, inspect the gliders and take a flight.
