It boasts majestic gum trees, rainforest and pretty creeks. The walk by Gloucester Environment Group took in 13km of the extensive trail network in the area. Many exclamations of delight could be heard when viewing the area.
There were even a few birds and plenty of interesting flora to satisfy the birdwatchers and botanists in the group. Generally ‘fairly easy’ walking was advertised with a few steep sections. Uphill walking to the ridgeline before lunch meant the group was nice and warm, ready for the break.
The challenge was navigating the steep downhill spots on foot without resorting to wearing out the trousers by sliding down the slopes on bottoms. The majority made it down without slipping too frequently, grabbing onto the odd tree in order to break a slide. Just a few of the group ended up with dusty backsides. Another enjoyable adventure for the walkers group.
Our next outing will be to Myall Lakes National Park on Saturday, August 20. Meeting time will be 8.45am at Billabong Park (Skate Park) for a 9am departure. We’ll start with morning tea at Treachery Headland carpark before our morning walk. A very easy (pretty well flat) 1.2km and return.
There are lots of birds on the headland and lovely views in both directions. We will then drive to the Hearts Point picnic area for lunch, and there is another easy short walk, after which we will return via the Grandis or people can explore the nearby historic mining town of Neranie if they prefer.
