“I have wanted to be an Olympian for as long as I can remember and it was everything I had hoped for and more,” he said shortly after the game was over.
He knows once the disappoint passes, he will remember all the amazing “pinch me” moments from the last two weeks.
“The goal was a gold medal. We didn’t achieve that but hopefully our fourth place will be a stepping stone for the Boomers at the next Olympics and I will be one proud Aussie I see that team win a medal.”
Damian said the support from family and friends made him realise being an Olympian is about taking pride in representing the country he loves and not about his individual journey.
“Would have meant the world to me to have won a medal knowing how much it would have meant to family, friends and everyone back home.”
He looks forward to returning to his pregnant wife and starting a new chapter in his life.
“My immediate focus turns to my beautiful wife who has been so supportive over the last five weeks while I’ve been away.
“She is 38 weeks pregnant and been amazing.
“I cannot wait to get home, see Brittany and await the birth of our first child.”
Damian would like to thank everyone in Gloucester for all the support he has received.
“I wish so dearly I could have brought home a bronze medal for you all but it wasn’t to be.”
