This urban landscapes weed inspection program has already been successfully rolled out across the Manning Valley in Cundletown, Tinonee, Wingham and Black Head.

The program aims to raise community awareness about harmful weeds, the severe impact they can have on our natural environment and the role the community can play in their control.

For those who are not familiar with the term, noxious weeds are those that have been declared under the Noxious Weeds Act due to their detrimental impact on farming, livestock, the environment and human health and by law, require landowners to control them.

The harmful weeds that will be targeted in the program include the dominant Asparagus weed and the African Olive environmental weed.

If you have either of these on your property, you are encouraged to get in touch with the MidCoast Council team and let them know by emailing council@midcoast.nsw.gov.auor calling 6592 5399.  

“The inspection process is a great chance for us to have a chat with landowners and to answer any questions or concerns they may have with regard to the control of weeds on their property,” senior weeds officer (Taree office) Wendy Bushell said.

Where weeds of concern are identified on a property during the inspection program, council will provide landowners with a report, any relevant educational material on the weeds present and then reinspect the property at a later date to ensure an effective weed control program is in place.

Red Head residents with protective dogs, potential hazards in their yard, or anything else the inspector should be aware of before entering the property, are requested to call MidCoast Council’s customer service centre on 6592 5399 as soon as possible.
