With the whole team unable to come to training this week due to a school excursion and others fighting off the flu, the team found it a little difficult to find their rhythm in the beginning. However Xander, Kayden, Kelly and Aiden placed some pressure on their goal keeper at every opportunity they could find. Hayden and Tristyn worked well in their defensive positions while Jack made some strong tackles stopping play. Slipping through the defence, Josh and Xander made some great shots at goal, with Xander's shot just missing the post.
Determination then set in among the halves and strikers with Aiden's shot hitting the top bar, Lane's shot was only saved by the keeper’s finger tips and Zeke's attempt was caught by the keeper. Nerves set in as Joseph took a corner kick, the ball rebounding off the opposition and attempting to score. Goalie Sam was ready, saw it coming and put his body on the line to save a great ball. As the ref's whistle blew for half time, the score was still 0-0.
With the Scorpions taking many more shots at goal than their opposition in the first half, Tuncurry ramped up their defence making it near impossible for Will and Joseph to pass the ball up front. Joseph had an outstanding game taking a few long range shots surprising their keeper. Tuncurry shocked the crowd putting the first score on the board with a fierce battle in front of goals.
This fired up our forwards to try and level up the score. Zeke, Josh and Kelly made a handful of shots each, most finding the keeper’s gloves. Lane also took on the keeper, having one of his best games yet. The ever strong defence of Tristyn, Will, Jack and Hayden kept the score to a minimum for the remainder of the game, with the final score 1-0 to Tuncurry Gold. Tuncurry Gold go straight to the grand final. The Scorpions are in for another game in the elimination final, giving them another chance to play in the grand final. If they win, it will be a tough final against Tuncurry Gold yet again.
