The first half saw some great runaways from Xander, Kayden Zeke and Aiden, with them all taking challenging shots at their goalie. Joseph was awarded a free kick, near the centre circle, the ball just missing the goal going a little too high.
It was followed on soon after with a corner kick by Pacific Palms sending the ball across our goals and back again, trying to catch our goalie unawares, Sam saving the ball with an awesome catch.
Debatable decisions throughout the first half didn't dampen the Scorpions spirits, with the Palms scoring three goals, with two of them being controversial.
As soon as the second half began, Gloucester made a fantastic runaway and took a long chip at their keeper, but was unfortunately disallowed.
The forwards and midfielders put in some hard yards and determination, but pushed on with Aiden, Kelly and Zeke working well up front, passing to Josh scoring a brilliant goal. We then made another great runaway toward the goals, only for it to be called back for offside.
Pacific Palms kept Sam in the firing line, putting his body on the line throughout the second half, having one of his best games yet and bringing much applause from the sidelines. Tension set in amongst the Scorpions as their second disallowed goal was brought back this time for being off side.
Despite Drifta losing their second ever game this week, the boys can hold their heads high claiming the title of 13 Years Team Football Mid North Coast Comp Undefeated Premiers for 2016. What a feat for their debut season! Special mention goes to our Goal Keeper Sam, who along with the rest of the team, kept Drifta at the top of the ladder for the majority of the season.
The team has been training twice a week since the beginning of February, forming new friendships and bonds through their passion of the sport.
Special thanks to the MidCoast Council for letting the team use their lights and field for training at night times and all those who took part in some way or another to help out this year.
We are looking forward to another great season next year, hopefully with all our talented young players in Gloucester, we might be able to get another team or two to join in the passion for the game and travel to the coast, with the draw, we normally only travel away every second weekend.
