Gloucester Bowls Club ran its annual Barrington Cup tournament on Saturday, September 17 and Sunday, September 18 and were scheduled to have just 2 teams in the rounds to be played.

However as two visiting teams cancelled at the eleventh hour two extra teams found their way into the draw. This eventuated in GBC having the place getters in first, second and third spot.
Five matches of 15 ends of bowls played over the two days resulted in only two teams having a perfect 5 wins.
The winners were decided on the winning margins and so John Andrews team of Bob Charman, Allen Rose and Tony Tersteeg took first place with a plus 46 shot margin. In second were Kevin Burley, Bob Crittenden, Lu Urby and Clive Redman with a plus 36 shot margin.
In third were the Bucketts Shield winners, Barry Wade, Brad Martin, Graham Turnbull and Jim Whittaker who had 4 wins and one loss. In fourth from Taree Leagues Club was Klaus Mirisch and his team with 3 wins, one loss and a draw for three and a half points.
There was plenty of good bowls played and lots of fun to be had and Barry Wade announced that after 14 years of running the event he was stepping down after this event. Thanks of the Club and those assembled to Barry was offered by bowls secretary Bob Charman to great applause.
This week there is social bowls on Thursday and on Saturday beginning at 1.30pm.
Last Thursday (September 15) there were 30 players taking part in 5 matches of three bowl triples competition. Two prizes were on offer and a resounding 23 shots to 16 win by Peter Jones, John West and Terry Higgins against Terry Davies, Bob Crittenden and Jim Henderson gave them 18 points and first place. Second prize went to Lu Urby, Clive Redman and Jim McIntosh who scored 17 points in beating Kevin Burley, Terry Carson and Eric Latimore by 22 shots to 19.
