Gloucester Police Senior Constable, Scott Chester said there have been several reports from concerned residents about young people riding around town, on the road and on the footpath, without helmets.
Some have even been seen sitting backward on the handle bars, travelling blindly down the middle of busy roads in the centre of town.
Senior Constable Chester said it’s a safety concern for not only the riders but other drivers and pedestrians.
“I’ve seen the impact of an accident with a child wearing a helmet and can’t even image what it would be like for a child not wearing a helmet.”
These acts are also considers offences which come with heavy fines.
Riding without a helmet is $325, riding on the footpath is $108 and riding recklessly is $433.
If a rider is caught with multiple infringements, the fines simply get added together.
Senior Constable Chester said the best way the community can help, is to file a report with the police.
