Quota International of Gloucester hosted the event, which gave new mothers the chance to show off their babies, while meeting other parents.
There were stalls set up offering information about the services available for parents and families in Gloucester; including childcare, breastfeeding and playgroups.
Two of the original members of the Gloucester Quota Club, Norma Wilson and Daphne Croker, attended the event. The club started in 1965, with the first Baby Show held in 1981.
“It sounded like a good idea and a good way of raising money,” Norma said.
The show has run every second year and has recently added in the Expo to help provide more information to new parents.
Club president, Barbara Lyons said the Expo gives parents the opportunity to find out about the services in town.
“There’s so much available and so many places they can go to get support,” Barbara said.
The main part of the day, is the Baby Show, which searches for the best babies in different ages groups and novelty categories like; Happiest Baby and Curliest Hair.
Judges from nearby Quota Clubs are invited to help decide the winners in each of the eleven categories; a job, they say, is quite tough.
This was the first time judging for Christine Gibbons from Taree Quota.
“All the babies are so beautiful, it’s really hard to judge.”
On the other hand, long time judge, Debbie Steber from Taree Quota, said the way the babies are judged these days has really changed. The competitions used to be very involved and the babies were thoroughly examined, checking for things like; cradle cap and nappy rash.
Now, it’s just a chance to hang out with adorable babies; cooing and making them laugh.
“What is lovely, is just seeing a mum cuddling her baby,” Debbie said.
They view the day as a great networking opportunity for new parents to meet other new parents in the community.
