Emergency services were called to the Pacific Highway on that morning, following reports of a serious truck crash.

Police have been told a south bound B-double crossed the road, hitting a median strip wire barrier before colliding with two north bound trucks, a Kenworth truck and dog tipper and a Volvo semi-trailer.

As a result, the B-double driver, a 35-year-old man, and the Kenworth truck driver, a 48-year-old man, were trapped in their vehicles for an hour before being rescue by emergency services.

They were airlifted by the Westpac and air ambulance helicopters to John Hunter, Newcastle and Westmead hospitals in  a serious condition.

Officers from the Metropolitan Crash Investigation Unit, who are investigating the accident, are appealing for any witnesses.

Investigators would specifically like to speak to anyone who witnessed the collision and more importantly anybody travelling south on the Pacific Highway at the time of the collision who has not yet spoken to police.
