Around 75 people from the Gloucester, Taree, Forster (Day and Evening), Maitland and Myall River clubs, enjoyed a meal prepared by the Uniting Church at the Gloucester Soldiers Club.
The Christmas cake was cut by three of the inaugural members of the Gloucester club; Joyce Buswell (still a member), Lynette Hebblewhite (still a member) and Jean Baumann (visiting guest).
After dessert the group was entertained by Coomba Park band, Old Time Rock N Roll.
Gloucester VIEW Club president, Joan Harwood said their 58 members organise fundraising events like; Soup and Beetle Day, throughout the year in order to give support to disadvantaged Australian children through The Smith Family charity.
They also give funds to disadvantaged students through The Smith Family’s Learning for Life program, helping to create better futures for children by providing:
- financial assistance from a sponsor to help disadvantaged families afford the cost of their child’s education
- support from a Learning for Life Program Coordinator to connect the child and their family to local learning opportunities and other supports
- access to Smith Family educational programs to help children get the most out of their school years
“We also donate awards to the local schools at Christmas time and donate money to Gloucester High School to buy books about Anzac Day,” she said.
VIEW Club is a women's national volunteer organisation, providing the opportunity for women from all walks of life to meet regularly and establish lasting friendships.
