Taree Fire Station officer Peter Willard is calling on local residents to consistently test all electrical appliances that are running over the summer months.

“We live in an electrical age where we are all using power boards,” Peter said.
With multiple appliances running through the same electrical current, Peter wants residents to question their set up.
“A really simple way to test is if you’re putting too much power through the board or cord is to feel it.”
“If that cord is hot, you might want to reconsider how many appliances are being plugged into it.”
As electrical appliances are a leading cause of house fires, Peter said all large items should have a separate power point.
"Large things like air conditioners should have a single power point with a split system that should be properly wired in with a dedicated power point and a dedicated separate circuit generally by a proper electrician," Peter said.
