Conditions were tough for all athletes and parents with high temperatures and humidity on both days. Lots of sunscreen and water were an essential part of the weekend. Andrew Hughes is competing in his last year of Little Athletics and was outstanding, achieving four medals; a gold in the 1500m walk and 1500m run, silver in the 800m and a bronze in javelin. Kieran Schneider competed solidly with a bronze medal in the shot put and high jump. Harry Clarke secured a bronze medal in the Long Jump. Connor Anderson displayed great technique in the 1000m walk and second place and the silver medal. The senior girls had a great carnival with Tahnee Yates gaining a gold medal in the 1500m and 3km and silver in the 800m. Charlotte Maslen secured a gold medal in the javelin and bronze in the shot put.
The top two athletes progress through to the State carnival in Sydney in March and then eight other athletes with the next best times over all the regions gain entry as well. Charlotte, Tahnee, Andrew and Connor are through to State and it is hoped a couple of others progress once all the regionals are complete.
