Six of the remaining eight players from Gloucester’s first men’s hockey team had a get together recently in Port Macquarie.

Ollie Rinkin, Andy Stackman, Bernie Dare, Innes Garner, Daryl Walker travelled to the area to visit their former captain and older team member, Jack Shaw (90 years old).
The men and their wives spent three days together reminiscing about the old days and catching up about the new.

They all got together in 2015 for the 60 anniversary of the club held in Gloucester which was attended by one hundred and seventy former players from over the years.
The men have spread out across the state from Quirindi to Wollongong, with only Ollie and Innes staying in Gloucester.
Ollie played the longest for Gloucester, having to give it up when he had a heart attack at 60 years old. He’s the only one still involved in hockey; currently coaching and mentoring the junior players in town.
Hockey in Gloucester began in 1955 with both and men’s and women’s team playing a year of social games around the State.
The following season, in 1956, the men where First Grade Premiers in the Manning Valley Hockey Competition, following up with winning four consecutive titles.
The Gloucester Panthers dominated the Manning Valley Competition over many years to follow until dropping off in competition wins and eventually, number of players.

Last year, the Gloucester Panthers made a come back, with the men taking out the title for the first time in 27 years.
The remaining greats intend to get together each year, with the next reunion planned for Wollongong.
