There has been a free connection at the Gloucester Library for sometime, but now that area has been extended to cover the Meeting Place and the School of Arts building, including the Gloucester Gallery and coffee shop.
School of Arts secretary, Peter Buettel started the conversation with MidCoast Council director of community space and services, Paul De Szell shortly after the council merger.
“Paul was invited to a joint meeting between School of Arts, GACCI (Gloucester Arts and Cultural Council) and the arts society,” Peter explained.
“The topic of free internet access in Gloucester was brought up at the meeting.”
From there the conversation developed and Paul worked with his team to get the process underway.
“We are happy to provide an additional service to the Gloucester community at no cost, which encourages people to spend time on the main street,” Paul said.
Both Peter and Paul believe that bringing free internet into the town will encourage people to spend more time on main street.
The hope is this will promote more activity for the local businesses. It will also be an attraction for tourists, providing them a location to catch up on their social media and spend a little time in town, exploring what Gloucester has to offer.
The connection will be available during business hours, seven days a week.
