The NSW State Emergency Service (SES) is seeking a new volunteer controller for its Gloucester Unit.
NSW SES Gloucester volunteers provide a range of emergency services to the local community including road crash, land and vertical rescue operations.
The unit also supports other emergency services in areas such as land searches and bushfire support operations, in addition to its traditional role of providing emergency response to flood, storm and tsunami.
The SES is seeking a highly motivated individual who would be responsible for leading, supporting and co-ordinating the unit in preparing for and responding to a range of emergencies in the Gloucester area.
The controller together with the unit leadership team and support from SES region headquarters, oversees the activities of the unit such as training, the maintenance of vehicles and equipment, recruitment of new volunteers, administration, community education and emergency response operations.
“The ideal person would have a range of demonstrated leadership abilities, experience in managing people and excellent interpersonal communication skills,” NSW SES region controller, Tony Day said.
“The successful candidate would also be provided with professional development and training opportunities to support them in their role as unit Controller.”
The search for a new Unit Controller comes about due to the retirement of Bruce Sun from the position.
Mr Sun was the NSW SES Gloucester Local Controller for the past 12 years and is staying on as an active member of the unit.
Mr Day paid tribute to the former Gloucester unit controller for his contribution to local community safety,
“Bruce has done an outstanding job in leading the Unit over a long period. During this time he has also been directly involved in a number of major operations where his commitment, knowledge and professionalism have served the Gloucester community well,” Mr Day said.
People interested in the position are encouraged to obtain an application pack from the NSW SES Mid North Coast Region headquarters by calling 6592 5800 or emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
This is a volunteer position - the successful applicant will be appointed for a two year period and provided with all necessary training, equipment and resources to undertake the Controllers responsibilities. An honorarium is also payable for out of pocket expenses.
