Gloucester resident, Kylie Goldthorpe is the driving force behind project, Gloucester – A Heart of Gold, an audit of the volunteer hours from 2016.
“It’s a feel good project,”she said, believing that celebrating Gloucester’s vibrant volunteer base is part of what makes a good town.
Kylie has started to contact the organisations in town who utilise volunteers, in an effort to collate an average amount of volunteer hours donated in a 12 month period. Working on the premises of a $25 hourly wage to pay an employee to do the same work, Kylie’s looking to calculate the value of the volunteers.
Once complete, she hopes to place a series banners at the three entrances to town, displaying “Gloucester”, “A Heart of Gold,” and the dollar value.
So, Kylie is calling on the community to let her know about the volunteers and the selfless hours they give to organisations, whether it be a social club or an environmental group or anything in between.
Contact Kylie for more information and for any assistance required on k.goldthorpe@westnet.com.au with subject line A Heart of Gold or 6558 7422. Kylie and helper, Maggie Magee are also available to help determine and calculate hours.
