Gloucester District Archers hosted the NSW 3D State Titles, here at our Rookhurst Range on June 10 and 11.

Despite the rain the day before, competitors arrived from all over NSW to compete in this two day event. Saturday started with a two arrow round in the morning and a one arrow round in the afternoon.

Both courses proved to be quite challenging, especially in trying to estimate the distances of each animal target in the bush setting. Some targets proved to be quite deceptive, making that A shot, a little more elusive for some.

As always in this competition, many competitors came back with a few less arrows then they started with and a great story to tell along with it.  Andrew Jennings is to be commended on his efforts, in setting out a well-designed and challenging range for this competition.

Sunday morning, everyone kicked off at 8.30 to do another round as the day before. The rain started to fall just after lunch, but this did not deter any competitors. The raincoats and umbrellas came out, as this round was make or break for some competitors, especially those biding for the top positions in their chosen categories.

At the end of day two, Gloucester District Archers came away with six NSW championships, with all other GDA members who competed during this event placing in the top three podium positions.

  • Alexander Terras – State champion – cub boys C-grade freestlye limited compound
  • Andrew Hughes – State champion – junior boys C-grade bowhunter limited

We would like to thank everyone who travelled to Gloucester over the long weekend to compete and the local businesses who supported our raffle. There were some great prizes up for grabs and the money raised goes towards expanding and growing our club, so we can host events such as these in our local area.

If you are interested in taking up archery, a great family sport, new members are always welcome.
