The not-for-profit station works on the basis that the radio presenter can either pay two dollars per week for a one hour themselves or engage sponsorship of five dollars per week from a local business.
Committee member and presenter, Lorna Tomkinson said the station is mainly supported by sponsors but they are always looking for more people to get involved.
“It gives a sense of belonging and confidence,” she said.
Lorna shares a show with Hildegard Griffin on Friday afternoons after Hildegard was encouraged by Lorna to come out and give it a go.
Lorna is advocating the radio station to people as she feels it is a very important part of the community.
“We need more volunteers,” she said.
And she had been working hard to get more people involved, having recently encouraged Gloucester High School (GHS) student, Owen Bithery to take on his own show.
All volunteers are shown the ropes by current presenters, giving as much time and support as they need to become successful in their own endeavour.
People who take on their own show are able to choose their own playlist of the stations library and can even invited in guests to interview live on the show.
Lorna recently invited GHS careers adviser, Mike De Angelis to come onto her who to talk about the school based traineeship program he is running through the school.
Inviting guests onto the show, provides a more dynamic and interesting session for the listeners and also give the community a chance to hear more about what is happening in the community.
The station is in the process of trying to raise funds to replace the transmitter antenna on the roof of the building.
This project will allow the station to reach a large audience.
If you are interested in getting involved, feel free to drop into the station located on the ground floor of the Gloucester Majestic Centre.
We are always looking for people to be involved. It gives a sense of belonging and confidence
