Some of the best junior riders from across NSW descended on Gloucester Showground for the opening days of the Glowalman competition.
Family day kicked off proceedings as groups of three contested the camp draft, barrels and flags events.
Tenterfield trio John, Emily and Chloe Butler held off a strong field to claim their second consecutive win in the category at Glowalman .
“It’s all in good fun and sportsmanship,” John said.
Seeking a tougher competition then their native Western Australia, 17-year-old Kate Craig and 16-year-old Darci Nancarrow opened their Glowalman account with a fourth place in the team draft event.
This year’s event is Kate’s first while Darci is a returning competitor.
Both girls have been competing since a young age and said the experience of Glowalman was worth the travel.
Event organiser Kelvin Gregory said an increased interest in junior competition has resulted in a record number of entrants for the 33rd annual event.
Points earned in each event go toward Australian Bushmen's Campdraft and Rodeo Association (ABCRA) ranking.
Competition will continue at Nabiac on Thursday, July 13 before the finals at Wingham Showground on Saturday, July 15.
A presentation to announce this year’s winners will be held after the finals on Saturday.
