Gloucester resident Gloria Wheatley donated the work called “life, the greatest puzzle”, a 24,000 piece jigsaw puzzle.
Mrs Wheatley said it took her three years to complete.
“I have enjoyed the therapy that this project has provided, as I could get lost in the colours and enjoyed having my grandchildren assist, all of which provided a wonderful experience and a feeling of satisfaction,” Mrs Wheatley said.
Gloria’s husband Alwyn along and some of the hospital’s maintenance department staff successfully mounted the puzzle in a location where the vibrant colours can be enjoyed by visiting clients and staff.
Stretching 4.28 metres wide and 1.57 metres deep, the puzzle had to be mounted on a corner wall due to its size.
“I am very proud of the accomplishment, especially the fact that not one piece was lost,” Mrs Wheatley said.
The puzzle was designed by artist Roy McClure, who drew inspiration from his love of diving and tropical fish.
It once held a Guinness world record for the greatest number of pieces in a commercial jigsaw puzzle.
Gloucester Community Health Centre diversional therapist Sue Tripney said the puzzle is a welcome addition to the centre for staff and visitors.
“When they walk through the front and it see it, it captures their eye.
“We would like to thank Gloria and Alwyn for this wonderful vibrant and kind donation.
“It will be enjoyed by many for years to come,” Ms Tripney said.
She conceded that due to the size of the puzzle, the health centre would struggle to add additional works to the walls.
Several visitors to the activities room have highlighted the different aspects, scenes and colours presented in the jigsaw.
Mainly used by older people, the centre’s activities room gives visitors a space to socialise and improve their quality of life through the support of staff.
The health centre organises barbecues and bus trips to complement the activities room.
