The school had been running the program until the end of last year, but due to a lack for funding it couldn’t get it off the ground this year until funding came through last week.
“Soul Food” is the working title for the new breakfast program that kicked off on Wednesday, July 26 and will run on Wednesday and Thursday mornings in the school hall.
GHS school chaplain, Karishma St Juste is heading up the program designed to provide a nourishing breakfast to any student.
“A full stomach makes for better learning,” she said.
It’s also a place for students to hang out and socialise before class, Karishma explained.
The hot and cold food options will vary, however Karishma said the toasted sandwiches are very popular.
GHS community liaison officer, Narelle Bignell applied for the United Church grant on behalf of the school and after being successful, the school was able to reintroduce the program.

The $1500 grant has allowed the school to restart the program and with continued support from the community, the program will be able to thrive.
“My church (Gloucester Seventh Day Adventist) is willing to support the program after the funding runs out," Karishma said.
Other churches in the community have also offered support to the program either via donation or volunteer services.
