Several students will be taking on the 2017 Gloucester Mountain Man Tri Challenge for the first time, thanks to the nurturing support of GHS teacher and Mountain committee member, Rob Seale,
Ahead of the school’s own, scaled down version of the event, held later in the month, several competitors have put their hand up to take on the town challenge on Sunday, September 10.
Jake Moulds, Hamish McClure and Cadel Beard will be competing as a team which has seen them have previous success in the school tri challenge.
Jake said their team is competitive team and that he’s expecting to come home strongly in his section of the the run leg.
Hamish said he will enjoy the kayaking component of the course and is looking to achieve excellent results as he has access to the Gloucester River from his home.
“My team has done the school event a number of times,” Cadel explained.
“This year, it was time to step up and tackle the town competition.”
Year 11 student, Andy Hughes will be completing as an individual, after winning the school’s triathlon last year.
Mr Seale said his all-round fitness level and determined attitude should see him complete the challenge despite any obstacles.
Recently formed team, Cameron Dunlop, Tristyn Beard and Tahnee Yates will also be competing.
“It will be interesting to see which Beard will record the fastest time for the bike leg as they train regularly together and are extremely competitive,” Mr Seale said.
Tahnee Yates has a long history of competing as a cross country runner, having come first in the recent zone competition.
Cameron Dunlop has seen success across a variety of sports, including athletics and horse riding.
“I believe that his determination and achievement will be unfaltering in the kayak leg,” Mr Seale said.
Kayden Schumann and Beau Blanch will work together to form the youngest team.
“This team should not be underestimated as both boys are super competitive and keen to ‘take on people older than ourselves’.”
GHS tri challenge is on Friday, September 22 and includes students from the local primary schools.
