NSW SES volunteers in the Gloucester unit respond to a wide range of emergencies, including industrial rescue, flood rescue, storm damage, road crash and land search.
Sometimes the volunteers can be called into other regions in the State depending on volunteers numbers available and skill set.
Examples of this are when there was a call out for help with the Lismore floods or for land search assist in the case of the disappearance of William Tyrell.
The Gloucester unit is always looking for new volunteers. Active members can get trained in any or all areas of emergency procedures or rescue that interests them.
If flood rescue is something of interest, then the volunteer can choose to learn that area. In fact, the unit is currently looking for flood boat operators.
There are no rules around where you live in proximity to headquarters and you can volunteer whenever you are available, which is why many volunteers are important. The more volunteers, the more people who may be able to assist in an emergency.
The unit conducts regular training on Tuesday evenings and most of the training required is done in-house in Gloucester headquarters, with several volunteers qualified to instruct.
If interested, you’re welcome to drop by on Tuesday evenings from 7pm at 23 Tate Street, call Robert McNeice 0428 269 608 or visit www.ses.nsw.gov.au
