The annual Golf Croquet Gala Day was held on September 2 under bright skies and very little wind.

There were four referees who travelled to officiate for the day; Margaret-Rose Thompson (Nelson Bay) was carnival referee, assisted by Jan Sage, (Taree), Janene Crellin (Taree) and Tom Adams (Forster).

40 players from eight clubs contested the day from Myall Park, Toronto, Nelson Bay, Forster, Macquarie City, Mt Sugarloaf, and Maitland, with two Gloucester players filling in at the last minute.

Handicaps of players ranged from 3 to 12.  Games were all doubles, played in four blocks and on level play.

Winners were:

Block A:  Mary and Robert Greig, Forster;  Runners up: Steve and Elsina Dilley, Forster.

Block B:  Ian and Jan Sullivan, Forster; RU: Ted Lyng, Toronto and Yvonne Bagnall, Gloucester.

Block C:  Sandra Jones, Mt Sugarloaf and Helen Cooper, Forster.  RU: Genevieve Parkes, Toronto and Lucy Housden, Nelson Bay.

Block D:  Marion Graff, Nelson Bay and Wayne Johnston, Macquarie City; RU: Sue Dodds and Lovey Maloney, Myall Park.

There were lots of compliments from our visitors on the great soups, dampers and cooking provided throughout the day. Thank you to members who helped in providing these; to Cecily for running the kitchen so efficiently, and to those who came in at 6.30am to set up. Thanks also to Ken and Al for the mowing and setting up of the lawns; to Stephen, Jim and Tom the gazebos; also to Bev and Paddy for keeping score cards and games running smoothly and to Peter Smith from Maitland who assisted with recording.

Next inter-club event on our calendar is the Mid North Coast Championship for golf croquet.  This is set down for Friday, September 29 in Forster.
