From Friday temperatures will heat up reaching a peak on Sunday with Kempsey to top the charts at 36 degrees. Coffs Harbour and Taree won’t be far behind with their maximum temperature predicted to hit 35. Port Macquarie will reach 31 and Forster 30 degrees by Sunday.
Across the Mid North Coast on Friday it will be partly cloudy with a slight chance of a shower or thunderstorm in the north in the afternoon but a near zero chance of rain elsewhere.
Winds will be mostly north to north-west between 20 and 30 km/h and on Sunday morning they will turn west to north-west and pick up to between 30 and 45 km/h during the morning.
The high temperatures coupled with the prolonged dry spell and high winds will have firefighters keeping a close eye on a number of fires burning across the region.
A fire which burnt a large section of a precious nature reserve in Port Macquarie is currently under investigation along with 20 others currently under investigation across the NSW RFS Mid Coast district. The Mid Coast district covers the area from Karuah up to the south of Kempsey.
The official bushfire rating for Friday is very high with the possibility of it moving to severe on the weekend as the temperatures rise and winds pick up.
“These type of conditions will be challenging for our volunteer fire fighters having already responded to 125 incidents since the beginning of the month,” district manager, superintendent Kam Baker said.
“The community should remain vigilant over the weekend and ensure their properties are well prepared, their bush fire survival plan is up to date and report any fires to triple zero.”
