“The people got it right,” he said.
Mr Roberts said he was pleased to be able to poll consistently across all areas of the Mid Coast and is driven to represent smaller communities (such as his native Tea Gardens).
He thanked voters for showing confidence in his ability to represent the wider community on the council.
“I am deeply honoured,” Mr Roberts said.
Mr Roberts said he is also proud to represent the community as an Aboriginal man.
He said the immediate challenge to be faced by the council will be to ensure a teamwork mentality is taken.
“By working as a team, the council can bring stability and morale to the MidCoast staff,” Mr Roberts said.
The former Great Lakes Council deputy mayor noted he has not worked with fellow councillors Dr David Keegan, Claire Pontin, Brad Christensen and Troy Fowler before but is keen to do so.
“I’m excited by what they have offered,” he said.
He added that the undivided method to elect the council was “more superior” than that of a ward system (subdividing the council into electorates so an equal number of councillors are elected).
