Early on Thursday (October 26) the Bureau of Meteorology warned of possible severe thunderstorms, merging into super cells, across NSW and they weren’t wrong.
Overnight parts of the Hunter were hit hard. Meteorologists said there were about 30,000 lightning strikes in the region with the area hit by "huge" hailstones reported to be about five centimetres in diameter.

It’s officially storm season and the the Mid North Coast is notorious for thunder and hail storms at this time of the year.
The Great Lakes was also hit with people sharing their photos of the hail storm.
Hail was reported at Coopernook on Wednesday afternoon.
Mitch Taylor reported three to four inch hailstones at Rainbow Flat - “Sky went black in minutes and then we were bombarded,” he said.
Jim Murphy was unlucky to be driving when the storm hit. “We got caught in one just north of Coopernook and have dents all over my car from hail,” he reported.
Keryn Brace reported that Hallidays Point was “smashed” by one storm, then a second one later, though “only small stuff”.
