These rounds consisted of two “dry work” patterns and two cattle work sections judged under the watchful eye of Angie Crump and Scott Pickering from the Lower Hunter.
The winner of the Futurity Challenge for horses under 5 years of age was Tamworth horseman Wyatt Young with the well performed gelding Bullseye Banjo (Binnia Impressive Destiny x Binnia Heidi) who placed in each of the four rounds of the Challenge and accumulated a total of 620.5 points.
Earlier this year Young and Banjo were winners of Cattle Work and Working Horse events at the ASHS Nationals held in Tamworth.
The runner-up was Bruce Snape with his brown 4 year old mare TaraVale Dreamacre (Royalle Heartacre x TaraVale Jewels Oak) who were consistent performers in all phases to score a total of 613.5 points.
In third place was Wyatt Young with the Conman stallion Nashville Nightman . This combination led the event going into the final leg of cattle work , but struck a difficult beast and could only manage a low score.
Shania Madden and Silverthorn Sapphire had great success winning both of the final two rounds , but had given the leaders too much start in the earlier rounds and placed fourth.
Champion in the Rookie section of the Challenge was Tom Cavanagh from Gresford with Rosebrook Maverick (Boorie Creek Flying Star x Rosebrook Marika) who led the event from the start to the finish and earned 575.5 points.
Local rider Fred Paterson finished strongly in the cattle work leg to take out the Reserve Champion Rookie award with Mollies TC on 551 points.
Emma Johnston from Wallanbah rode Watchirs Snickers to win the Juvenile Challenge , ahead of the runner-up Cameron Dunlop with Ela Diamond Lady. Emma was also the winner of the ASH Ladies Association Junior rider award.
In the Junior section Comboyne competitor Lachlan Corrigan and Shannon Vale Addition combined well to score a total of 273 points to edge out Georgia Maben from Merriwa on her mount Silverthorn Chandellier with 264.5 points.
The “lucky draw” consolation prize for an unplaced competitor was won by Jordyn Snape – she won a $100 gift voucher kindly donated by Toprail Equine Supplies.
The Branch thanks all those persons who made the Challenge such a success – the cattle donors , volunteer workers, judges, canteen operators, sponsors , and the many competitors who travelled long distances to take part.
