Alexander, who completed his HSC in 2012, will spend three years at the Australian Defence Force Academy (ADFA) in Canberra studying a Bachelor of Science degree, majoring in maths and chemistry.
He was accepted into the Australian Army at an appointment ceremony attended by family and friends at Fort Scratchley last month along with 13 other high school graduates from across Newcastle, the Central Coast and northern NSW.
After graduating from ADFA, Alexander will complete a further 12 months training at Duntroon Royal Military College.
