Tylah Jean Edwards, 16, and 18-year-old Alex Gibbs will compete in the campdraft competition to be held at Nabiac, Gloucester and Wingham over three days.

Both girls come from the town of Gingin, about two hours north of Perth.

Tylah’s elder sister Maddi is a former competitor at the Glowalman championship.

Tylah has been competing in campdraft events since the age of 10.

While her family owns a sheep and cattle property, Maddi spends the majority of her time in Perth - where she attends boarding school.

“Any free weekend when I am not playing netball, I travel home to ride the horses and help my dad, Brett, on the farm,” she said.

“My parents breed a few horses so I have been fortunate to ride horses with good bloodlines. 

“My parents started an Australian Stock Horse stud called Carrigans Huckleberry and have just acquired some stock horse mares but mum likes a little bit of the quarter horse in there still.” 

Tylah’s good friend Alex has also grown up around horses.

“Tylah and my parents banded together and formed the Gingin Campdraft Club more than 10 years ago,” she said. 

“Having a local facility has made a big difference to my riding. I finished school last year and now have a traineeship in local government administration with the Shire of Gingin.”

Alex often travels up to eight hours to compete in drafts.

Both girls have spent the past few months raising money for the trip east to compete at Glowalman.

“I think Tylah and I have sold over 600 hamburgers to put into the kitty to help get here,” Alex said.

This is the eleventh year of the hugely successful Glowalman exchange program.
