Stooged Theatre’s perfromance of The Merchant of Venice was well received by local audiences.

The final wrap for the 16th festival has been completed with participants giving the event an overall rating of 4.4 out of five.

“The revamped Elizabethan Faire proved a vote-winner, as did the return of Newcastle’s Stooged Theatre for the performances of The Merchant of Venice,” chairperson Maureen Hjorth said.

“Many written comments from regular guests were submitted stating that the shows were the ‘best since the festival started’, with a perfect five being a common rating by audience respondents.

“We knew that Stooged Theatre was going to be well-received. Director Carl Young always brings something new and exciting to his interpretations of Shakespeare and his Merchant of Venice was truly worthy of the world stage.

“The Stooged Theatre ensemble made many new fans during their stint in Gloucester: we laughed, we cried, we loved them.”

The current committee has all stepped down for a well-earned rest and will not be standing for the 2015 festival committee.

The call is now out for all new committee members to the run the event next year.

The outgoing committee is happy to mentor the new committee if required.

Anyone interested should contact outgoing chairperson Maureen Hjorth on 0419 426 816 by July 31.

The committee positions are chair, treasurer, minutes secretary, promotions coordinator, fair coordinator, collateral coordinator, theatre company coordinator, fundraiser-sponsor coordinator, catering coordinator and council liaison coordinator.
