Gates A1 (Honeysuckle) and A3 (Devils Hole) are locked. It follows a good dumping of snow across the Tops on Thursday.
Police strongly recommend 4WD vehicles only venture into the Tops and adequate survival equipment is carried.
Icy conditions on the Barrington Tops Forest Rd have made driving conditions hazardous and resulted in several vehicles sliding off the road.
An assessment of the road was carried out by National Parks staff on Friday afternoon and authority to close the road was later granted by police.
The duration of the closure will depend on weather conditions and further closures could be expected across the weekend.
Traffic can use the alternative route via Pheasants Creek Rd then onto either Tubrubucca Rd or Tomalla Rd.
Bureau of Meteorology forecasts for the next few days predict freezing temperatures in the mountains with the strong possibility of some rainfall/snow early next week.
