Hundreds braved the icy weather to lend a hand around the grounds or watch one of the five games played.
“It was a top day,” Magpies skipper Hayden Tull said.
The Magpies defeated the Karuah Roos in a wave of blue and white, wearing Bulldogs jerseys donated by the Canterbury club as a tribute to Curtis. Following the game, the jerseys were auctioned off at the Avon Valley Inn, with each selling for between $700 and $1000.
Skipper Tull’s jersey fetched a whopping $5000.
“The whole day was a great success. We would like to thank everyone that turned up and donated to the appeal,” organiser Rodney Summerville said.
A final figure on the amount raised is expected to be announced next week.
