RELATED CONTENT: Police to investigate Bowral death in custody
Ice has again been a key factor in a violent attack on Bowral Police.
For the second time in less than a week Bowral Police have tasered a man under the influence of ice.
At about 7.30pm on Wednesday, January 14, the 34-year-old man allegedly damaged a police vehicle with a hammer outside Bowral Police Station.
When officers challenged the man, he refused to comply and continued to advance towards police, at which time he was tasered.
The man was arrested and searched and officers secured the hammer and located a knife.
Inspector John Klepczarek from Bowral Police Station said there was no risk to the community at any stage.
“When the police heard the commotion outside they responded immediately and it was resolved in a matter of minutes,” he said.
“I consider the police who attended the situation to be very professional and courageous in their approach and the matter was resolved quickly with no real harm to anyone.”
This is the second violent ice attack on police this week and as a result, Insp. Klepczarek said police would be stepping up the investigation into the supply and use of ice in the Southern Highlands.
“Police will also be investigating the possibility of a bad batch of ice that could be circulating in the area.”
The man was due to appear before Goulburn Local Court yesterday, however, the case was adjourned.
Bail was not applied for and the man will remain in custody.
He will now face court by audio visual link on February 4.
The charges:
- *Destroy or damage property
- *Two counts of using an offensive weapon with intent to commit an indictable offence
- *Two counts of assaulting a police officer in the execution of their duty
- *Custody of a knife in a public place.
