Students were invited to learn about how the bugs that live in waterways tell a story about the health of the water.
Education and Engagement Officer from MidCoast Water, Kirsty Hughes had the 12 children working with the seven parents and grandparents, collecting insects from the dam.
Each person was given an activity guide, listing the different types of bugs they could find.
Kirsty instructed them to find as many bugs as they can with as many different bugs as possible.
They learnt that lots of bugs means the pond is healthy and the variety of bugs can tell about the quality of the water.
Their guide had pictures and names of the bugs in a health water source on one side, with the other side showing bugs that will live anywhere.
The free activity was hosted by Midcoast Water.
