Lachlan and Callum Howard are currently taking part in training trials to be a part of the the Hunter Academy of Sport (HAS) for hockey.
Both started playing hockey a few years ago, as part of the indoor competition held by the Gloucester Hockey Association at the recreation centre.
The first time they took to the field was in 2015, when they played as part of the Gloucester Panthers men’s team in the Manning Valley Hockey Association competition.
After recently participating in the hockey coaching clinic, the trainer Greg Doolan suggested the brothers apply to the Hunter Academy of Sport.
They were accepted on the condition they passed their fitness and skills tests, which they have managed to achieve.
Now they are trying out for the under 18 hockey team among a squad of 25.
The squad will train and be tested over the following few months with a final team of 15 being selected to represent the HAS, early next year.
Lachlan and Callum are very excited to have the chance to learn from the HAS coaches and train with other players from around the region.
“It’s nice to be playing with others our own age,” Callum said.
Both are enjoying the skills and fitness training they are taking in part in every few weeks.
“I just want to get as far as I can; doing my best and trying to learn what I can,” Lachlan said.
