Not only did she break the time record in her age group but she also became the fastest female swimmer in the 53 years the club has been in existence.
The 11 year old time record had been previously held by Andrea Finlay since 2000, with a time of 28:18:41. Emily smashed the time shaving off over four minutes with a final time of 24:14:51.
This time found her setting another record of being the fastest female to swim the 1500m across all the age groups in the club. Ever.
Club president, Dave Windred congratulated Emily on her achievements.
“To have the fastest time for a female in the club is a testament to the young lady’s swimming ability,” he said.
“May she continue to keep breaking records.”
Emily now holds 22 records with the club
She joined when she was in year two and hasn’t looked back.
Her favourite stroke is freestyle and her favourite race is the 50 metre.
When asked what she thinks about while swimming a race, she said “I keep track of how may laps I’ve done.”
Emily swims in competitions around the state throughout the season; sometimes as often as weekly.
She enjoys going to events, swimming and catching up with friends.
“Cause it fun,” Emily giggled.
Emily officially received her awards during the regular swim club evening on Thursday, January 12.
The club meets weekly during the swim season, offering different races each week.
Weekly squads training is available for swimmers from Mondays to Wednesday to assist with technique.
Swimmers can choose which events they want to take part in on the night.
The aim is for the swimmers to beat their own time, trying to improve each week.
