Some Gloucester businesses have cause for an extra celebration after a pretty successful Christmas period.

The heat seems to have brought extra tourists into the region, taking advantage of Gloucester’s cool waterways.
Manager tourism for Gloucester’s Visitor Information Centre, Wendy Hughes said generally speaking the camping grounds have reported their “best Christmas ever.”
“One camp ground reported that the whole of last year was busier than they have been for several years,” Wendy said.
After to speaking with the National Parks and Wildlife, Wendy said the camping areas “were busy and constant,” with lots of families choosing to pitch their tents this year.
Day trippers also drove through in high numbers to explore the national parks.
Bed and breakfasts and self contained cottages have reported they were kept busy throughout the Christmas and New Year period, according to Wendy.
“Again those I spoke to reported their best ever (season).”
The motels in town reported being busy but were also able to accommodate walk-in visitors.
“All found that the length of visitor stay had increased, with one visitor stating that Gloucester has become “very touristy”,” Wendy said.
The Gloucester Swimming Pool Complex reported to Wendy to have had outstanding numbers between Christmas and the New Year.
There were lots of campers looking to cool off during the heat.
The Barrington Store had a lot of traffic passing through over the period, according to owner David Milton.
“We were very happy with the trade over the Christmas break,” he said.
“Overall, it appears that everyone should be smiling,” Wendy said.
