Gayle Hollingsworth said she was shocked to come across what looked around two trailer loads of unwanted goods on the corner of Waukivory Road and Phillips Road.
A few hours later, Gayle drove by and noticed that around half of stuff had been removed. “The pile was spread out all over the place, like it had been picked through,” she said.
She believes the dumping happened because the tip no longer offers free drop off. So she called MidCoast Council about the mess and found out that both Greater Taree and Great Lakes residents are offered free collection once a year. She suggested Gloucester residents should get a voucher for a free drop off.
MidCoast Council has told the Gloucester Advocate that planning for waste within the new council area has started and vouchers for free drop off has been discussed.
Up until 2015, there were no tipping fees for residents of Gloucester at the tip.
Council explained that with the introduction of the State Government tax for all waste to landfill, minimal user pay charges were put in place to ensure the Gloucester tip had a viable future. “Gloucester was the last landfill within NSW to introduce fees and charges,” a council spokesperson said.
Council has confirmed the rubbish was picked up on Monday, March 6, the same day it was reported.
