This was a really great Veterans Week of Golf held from Monday, May 22 until Friday, May 26 at the Gloucester Country Club.
The weather was close to perfect, the course immaculate and the rural views were stunning.
Despite these conditions, good scores were hard to come by.
Some 17 entrants were playing for the first time.
Overall, 21 clubs were represented, one from Queensland and in the south to Shoalhaven.
Congratulations to our overall winners.
It was good to see these events being led by some of the newer entrants.
Both the men’s and ladies’ overall winner prize was four nights at the Gloucester Country Club Motel, with golf, carts and meals at the restaurant.
On the presentation night, The new South Wales Veteran Golfers Association (NSWVGA) was represented by councillor, Stuart Dossetor, who presented the NSWVGA trophies. Thanks Stuart.
The format of the week was similar to other years featuring a shot gun start, chipping and putting competitions, great lunches and good camaraderie in the clubhouse afterwards with a raffle or two.
Many of the players joined in the ladies Mixed Classic, played on the Sunday.
The presentation dinner on Thursday night (May 25) went off well with 109 attending.
Our new restaurant staff at the Gloucester Country Club, were excellent and the meals were good.
A feature of the week, was the support given to us from our sponsors from around Gloucester town.
They are generous and thoughtful.
It is so pleasing to see that many of our visitors take the time to go downtown and put some effort into repaying our sponsors.
As always, the locals at the club worked so hard and willingly to get this week off successfully.
Our thanks go also to the players who keep turning up each year and our new entrants.
Thanks for being the best bunch of people to entertain.
The Gloucester community really enjoyed the company and the patronage and the good spirit and look forward to seeing you all again next year.
