On Saturday, July 1, the open women’s side will hold ladies day, designed to be a fundraiser for White Ribbon Day. A jumping castle, barbecue and a DJ set will be among the activities.
Coach Matt Lansdowne said the event will show the hard work the team has put in while raising funds for the charity working to prevent domestic violence.
”They are poster girls for women’s rugby in our area and hopefully seeing them around will encourage other women from the Taree, Old Bar, Forster, Nabiac and Myall Lakes to see their local clubs and get our own competition here in the southern zone.
“It’s all about having fun, making friends and enjoying the game so many guys take for granted.
“A lot of people have worked very hard to get this happening and it’s now a real opportunity for local women to get involved with rugby from Gloucester and the Manning Valley,” Mr Lansdowne said.
The following day, the under 17s will host their first rugby 7s gala day against sides from the Hunter, Tamworth, Central Coast and Wauchope/Port Macquarie.
Team manager Jodie Whitby said the event presents an opportunity to grow women’s rugby in the region and showcase the skills of all players.
