Frank Beggs has been breeding poultry for over 60 years and has been showing his prize birds at local shows, including the Royal Agricultural Show in Sydney, for decades.
The Mid North Coast Game Club Show had a record number of entries this year with 480 birds on exhibit.
Three judges were invited to attend and once all sections had been assessed, the judges came together to decide on the coveted “Bird of Show” prize.
Frank entered nine birds and three did particularly well. He was awarded Best Old English Bantham in division one and runner up Old English Bantham in division one.
The top hen then went on to win the Best Old English Bantham Overall and the Best Old English Bird of Show. An Australian Pit Game Bantam hen was awarded Best Pit Game Batham, Best Pit Game of Show and Best Hardfeather Bantam.
The overall Bird of Show was contested, with Frank winning the coveted award with the Australian Pit Game Bantam hen. To top the day off he also won the Reserve Champion Bird of Show with his Old English Game white tail bantam hen.
Frank’s three top birds secured him a total of 13 ribbons, three memorial trophies, four bags of feed and $150 cash.
Frank’s experience breeding poultry includes Old English Big Fowl, Wyandottes, Rhode Island Reds, Old English Bantams and Pit Game Bantams. He’s a sought after poultry judge, having been invited to judge at numerous shows.
