This year the Gloucester High School students have produced an excellent collection of individual artworks. Each has chosen a different media area to express their ideas and develop their techniques to their final body of work.

Amber Franks has produced a clever narrative on her family including some clues that highlight her Maltese heritage.

Extending the concept of drawing she has produced an excellent series of drawings that involve numerous nails and black string, as well as digital images that enhance the series.

Ruby Pippen started looking at the stars for ideas and evolved her perceptions into a very complex assortment of dry point etchings and weavings.

Her final works have become very cerebral in their composition, challenging the viewer to dig deep into their understanding of the workings of the human brain.

Indira VirziHartigan has literally seen the light and has produced a rich collection of images inspired by the sunset.

Indira also started off investigating herself and how she identifies with the landscape around her.

Initially manipulating photos to try to find a composition and technique that she liked, she has arrived at a series of paintings dripping with media that celebrate the patterns and colours of the evening sky.

Because we have had a small group of students sitting for the HSC this year, a number of HSC Visual Art students were invited to bring their artworks back to life reminiscing on the hours spent on their own HSC from years ago.

There is quite a range of works including Fiona O’Brien (1987), Wendy Fraser (1993), Amber Hitchcock (2008) and Sophie Steele (2010), each of whom, also, produced a very individual approach to the problem for their HSC.

The show is on until September 9, after which all the works will be shipped to Sydney to be marked for their final HSC practical examination.
