It started with a little discussion at a Gloucester Greens meeting, but the idea has begun to grow.

There is concern about people on the community who are struggling to stay cool when the temperatures hit high degrees and Maureen Magee believes it’s an important issue.
So, she’s taking the idea further and is looking for ideas and support from the community.
The hope for Project Cool Place is to provide a safe, cool space for people who need it in the extreme weather, when temperatures exceed 35 degrees.
Maureen held a community meeting on Tuesday, September 5 to find out if there was a need and if she could find others to help her.
What she found was stories of people who really struggled with the extreme heat last year and who are worried about this summer.
One person told a story about how the landlord installed ceiling fans and increased the rent by $10 per week. Another told a similar story, except the landlord was asked for a power point and a light in the car shed and the landlord offered to add air conditioning and ceiling fans for the extra $10 per week, however this landlord has since reneged on the deal but has kept the increased rent.
Maureen has been joined by other members of the community and they are looking for help, ideas and support. To help this community project, contact Maureen Magee 0417 571 036.
