Maitland U3A members recently came to Gloucester for a day tour of the area and an afternoon tea visit with some of the Gloucester members.

Around 25 of Maitland’s members boarded a bus on Tuesday morning (October 10) and headed into Stroud were they stopped for morning tea and a look around town.

As they continued their journey toward Gloucester, they picked up Gloucester District Historical Society Museum member, Pam Hebblewhite who acted as a tour guide while they journey around town.

After the guided tour, the visitors were dropped off in Gloucester, where they enjoyed lunch in various places around town before meeting up with Gloucester U3A members for a cuppa and slice of homemade ginger cake. 

Going on outings is something the two groups have in common, with the Gloucester members taking a return river tour from Newcastle to Morpeth in August.

Before leaving town, the guests explored the museum with some reminiscing about items they remember using in days gone past.

U3A offers four terms of courses throughout the year coinciding with the school terms. They run things like yoga, mediation and poetry writing for members to take part in. The courses are designed around what the members can offer based on work or life experiences. Typically members are retired and looking for social engagement and experiences with other members of the community.

Gloucester U3A held an open day during the NSW Seniors Festival earlier this year.
