Make sure you’re well equipped to help your learner driver become a safer driver by attending a free two-hour workshop aimed at parents and supervising drivers.
Statistics show that young people are over-represented when it comes to accidents and fatalities on our roads.
If you’ve taken on the responsibility of supervising a learner driver, you need to ensure they are confident and safety-conscious.
To prepare yourself for this important role, MidCoast Council is holding free workshop in Taree, Forster and Gloucester next month.
The Helping Learner Drivers Become Safer Drivers arm attended with information, practical advice, and a structured approach to building the competency of their learner, along with confidence in teaching safe driving habits.
The two-hour workshops will be held in Gloucester on Thursday, November 2, Taree on Thursday, November 9 and Forster on Tuesday, November 14.
Council’s road safety officer, Chris Dimarco said this is the second round of learner driver workshops this year.
“Those attending find it's much easier to navigate the requirements of the log book and provide effective lessons that gradually build on the skills of their learner driver," he said.
The course has been developed by Roads and Maritime Services which recognises the important part that parents and supervisors play in supporting inexperienced drivers.
Workshop content is designed to help supervisors prepare for the role by covering topics such as laws that apply to L and P licence holders, completing the learner driver log book, and the benefits of well supervised on-road driving experience.
Workshops will commence at 6pm and light refreshments will be provided. Dates and locations for the three workshops are:
- Gloucester, SES HQ office, 23 Tate St, Gloucester – Thursday, November 2
- Taree, Council administration building, Pulteney Street – Thursday, November 9
- Forster, Council administration building, Breese Parade - Tuesday, November 14
Bookings are required and can be made by calling (02) 6591 7236, or emailing email@example.com. Please specify the location you will be attending when making your booking.
While the workshop is aimed at those teaching a learner driver, learners may benefit from some of the workshop content.
