Council will host a series of free and exciting activities that showcase and promote the trend towards turning trash into treasure.
If you’ve ever visited your local re-use centre or tip shop, you’ll know it’s a great place to find a bargain, or to join the recycling trend by dropping off your pre-loved goods.
Visit during National Recycling Week and you’ll go in the draw for a $50 re-use centre voucher!
From collectibles to kitchenware, and retro to remarkable, you’ll find something you can put to good use or repurpose into something new.
The voucher competition will be run right across the MidCoast region with a winner drawn in each of the region’s five re-use centres at Bulahdelah, Bucketts Way, Gloucester, Tea Gardens and Tuncurry.
Along with the chance to win, make sure to bookmark the free family day on Saturday, November 18 at the new-look Tuncurry Community Recycling Centre (CRC).
A series of activities and workshops will take place from 9.30am–3.30pm, where you’ll be spoilt for choice.
From easy ways to repair your bike, to making lunch wrap from bees wax, knitting with t-shirts, and a whole lot more there’s something to intrigue everyone in the family.
MidCoast Council waste services manager John Cavanagh, said he was looking forward to welcoming people from across the entire community.
“Not only will everyone have a great day out, our aim is to make sure they leave inspired on how to save money by recycling what would previously have been wasted,” Mr Cananagh said.
And if you’ve ever wanted to take a behind-the-scenes look at how our waste is managed, free guided tours of the Tuncurry Materials Recovery Facility and Transfer Station will also form part of the MidCoast region’s National Recycling Week celebrations, he said.
You’ll see where waste goes, understand why recycling is important, and learn how to minimise your waste going to landfill.
The free tours will run from 10am-12pm on Tuesday, November 14 and Thursday, November 16, but make sure you book in early as numbers are limited.
